Focused Curiosity

In this practice, we’ll pay attention to a sensation in the body and cultivate a genuine interest or curiosity around that sensation. Then we’ll invite in a challenge we’ve been working with and invite in that same curiosity. We are not trying to solve the challenge, but simply build curiosity around it and in doing so, increase perspective.

Reflection Questions

Consider what we’ve talked about, particularly around focusing your attention with curiosity. Make some space in your day to reflect.

  1. What mindfulness practice might help you hone your ability to stay focused on just one thing at a time? Consider a time of day (or even multiple times) when you can commit to this daily practice - even if it’s just for a few minutes.

  2. What is your #1 work priority right now?

  3. How does that priority align with your values and interests? Can you find a part of you that is truly interested in, curious about or excited about this task? Notice where you feel that excitement or interest in your body?

  4. Despite all of the to-do’s, how can you design your day (time blocking, minimizing task switching, creating supportive filters, etc) to make more space for curiosity and creative thinking around this priority - not just the easy to-dos - but the creative thinking that supports innovation?
