The 5 Day Countdown is on!!!
My new 6-week series, Somatic Immersion: A Yoga Therapy Journey, starts this Tuesday, October 7!!!
My top line intentions for the course:
By steeping yourself in this conversation with your body, you'll cultivate a felt sense of safety and connection.
By noticing the sensations, emotions, images, and thoughts that arise, you'll gain valuable and actionable insights that will enhance your life in significant and ongoing ways.
3 Awesome incentives:
When you register, you'll get a free month of Your Yoga: A Virtual Community where you can join me 4 times a week on zoom and access hundreds of yoga and meditation classes in the Your Yoga library.
You'll also have access to discounted individual yoga therapy sessions, if you'd like to pair some 1:1 work with the 6 week series.
When you register by Sunday, I'll make a $25 donation on your behalf to Movement in Refuge (MIR), an organization that brings yoga and other movement experiences to the women in the Cox's Bazar Refugee Camp in Bangladesh (more about MIR below including how to donate if you feel called).
How it Works:
October 7 - November 11
I'll be offering this class in-person in Salt Lake City, on Zoom and via self-paced recordings. You may choose one or mix and match depending on your weekly schedule! Each class is 75-90 minutes.
The course is supported by 6 online modules, including class recordings, guided meditation and movement practices, and reflection prompts.
Why take this course?
You'd like to stay more grounded and connected in the face of conflict.
You’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious or fearful and want to cultivate a deeper sense of safety in your body and in the world around you.
You are aware that you spend more time in your head than your body and you'd like to change that.
You'd like to understand your emotions and behaviors more.
You want to feel more present and aware of what is happening in both your body and your mind and you'd like the two to feel more aligned.
You're a mental health or wellness professional interested in offering your clients more somatic mindfulness tools.
*Please note that if you are in crisis, this course is not a replacement for therapy although it can be a powerful and often essential addition.
My unique yoga therapy framework:
My yoga therapy sessions integrate eastern yoga and mindfulness teachings with western psychology and neuroscience perspectives. In this series, we'll work with the following frameworks, in order to understand our own inner workings:
The nervous system:
We'll explore the role of the nervous system and the basics of emotional regulation and polyvagal theory.
Your nervous system defaults:
We each have a tendency towards fight, flight or freeze and each requires a different set of tools and practices to bring us back to our parasympathetic or social engagement system.
The four windows of knowing:
We take in information through our sensations, thoughts, emotions and images. Paying attention to all four, can give us a much larger window into our inner landscape.
Parts work:
Learning how to be in dialogue with different parts of ourselves, our bodies and our psyches is an essential part of understanding our emotions and our actions and truly knowing and tending to ourselves.
Deep imagery/active imagination:
Our bodies and psyches often speak the language of metaphor. Inviting our imagination into the conversation gives us so much more access to our inner truths than our minds alone can offer.
Self-compassion:
Self-compassion is the super-power we all need to feel safe and at home in our bodies.
And finally...Movement In Refuge
I have a dear friend, Shailaja, who is currently working with an incredible organization called Movement in Refuge (MiR) — a group dedicated to providing access to movement-based activities and sports for refugees around the world.
Right now, MiR is working in the Cox’s Bazar refugee camps in Bangladesh, the largest refugee camp in the world. As you can imagine, life in the camps is incredibly difficult and providing access to movement-based activities has provided a lifeline to many.Yoga is one of the activities that has been highly requested in the camps, especially by girls and women. They find that it helps them immensely with their physical and mental well being.
Shailaja will be visiting the camps this November and working alongside local yoga coaches to expand their reach. Check out the flier below (you can also learn more by visiting the website) and consider making a donation.
And if you register for the Somatic Immersion by Sunday, I'll make a $25 donation on your behalf!
As always, if I can answer any questions, don't hesitate to reach out.
Sending so much love your way,
Rachel
